Everett 1999 John Everett John Everett, "My current team is Wheel Fast Racing, Naperville, Illinois. I bought the TT bike via rec.bicycles.marketplace from a guy in the San Diego area. As a joke I put on my old CycloVets jersey for the picture, originally intended for an old friend in the 'Vets who checked out the bike for me."

Jim looks A LOT like my first real racing coach Jay Kinney.

Marty Lane and wife Ana, 1997 Marty lane and his wife Ana (click for full-sized image). Marty writes:
"...The photo is cycling related in a way, because it was taken on the southern coast of Portugal on the very same day [in 1997] Marcel Wuest won stage two of the Vuelta in Vilamoura, Portugal. Ana and I had seen the riders earlier in the day in Evora, then traveled south to Sagres, where we checked into a room in an old fortress overlooking the sea. It was a big day for the two of us, which is why we're wearing the the smiles."

Bruce Frech & trombone. Nice biker shorts tan line for those in the know. Quite an artistic arrangement.
Bruce is the 50th person to appear here - faces of rbr!

[It took just 5 short, quick days to start from scratch and get to fifty names. Who knows - maybe by the Tour 2000 - we will have 100 rbr names immortalized? One can dream! Ken]

Patrick "mad dog" O'Grady 1997. The talented, good looking VeloNews cartoonist. "The red-white-and-blue Mad Dog is from a cyclo-cross at Chatfield State Recreation Area in 1997."
O'Grady 1999. Mad Dog writes more, O'Grady's Les cartoon rejected by VeloNews "...the yellow Dog is from the 1999 Colorado Cyclo-cross Championships at Mead. I don't get many pics taken, 'cause the lens usually shatters, occasionally blinding the photographer. Let's hope neither shot crashes your server." Ha ha ha! Always the funny Irishman!

Al Williams, 1972. "...on the rollers in '72 at the Water Tower Rec Center in Germantown, Philadelphia PA, while Pa. State Road Champion. Pennsylvania Bike Club, Hill Cycle, sponsor."

Mark Chandler 1985. Photo was taking of Mark racing in Northern California mid '85. A little bit of ancient mtn biking history here.

Marc Belanger 1998. "Here I am, climbing up l'Alpe d'Huez, August 1998. (100 degree day, I was COOKED!, although I managed to at least crack a smile for the camera, somehow)."

At the right - Marc on Mt. Washington, 1998. "This was just after my first time up in 1998, with about a 10 degree windchill, 50 mph wind and ZERO visibility!"

Dave Carr, Tues. crits 1998 Dave Carr. (Napa Valley Velo/Jolt! Cola) wins the 1998 Senior Cat. 3 crit race in Santa Clara, California. (footnote: Carr was relegated to 2nd place for raising his arms.)

At the right: Carr on an April, 1998, Tuesday evening race in Santa Rosa, California.

Eric Harvey, 1998. "...sporting the now outdated colors of the Velocity Cycling Club of Edmonton. The race is the 1998 Alberta Provincial RR championship, near Calgary. It was a hot day for Alberta, about 32 Celsius, and a tough race. I think I'm just accelerating to jump across to Chris Wright (Juventus) who has just started to go away. It was a nothing move closed down quickly by another team. I remember I was away solo for about 10-15 km late in this race, and I was starting to think about victory, but I was caught with under 4 km to go. Our team did manage 2nd and 4th in the finale though."

Steve Johnson at a 1989 Triathlon and a 1994 mishap: "Broken left wrist (for the third time!) and resulting hardware from a bike crash. Also broken right elbow, minor long-term nerve damage in my right hand, pretzeled front wheel, bent handlebars, bent saddle, broken chain, missing computer, bent rear dropout and missing half a rear derailleur.
Which reminds me - it's about time to start a thread on best/worst crashes to relieve the winter tedium."

Stella Hackell, 1998? Stella Hackell.

Knee X-Ray Chambers 1997 "ComutrBob" - Bob Chambers 1999. Assault on Mt. Mitchell finish line and his knee X-Ray (from 1997). Bob comments, "Every time I look at that kneecap xray I cringe. It was bad enough when I broke it, but later I broke the hardware and had to have a second surgery. Fortunately, the bone was healed by then and they just removed the hardware altogether. That wasn't the original plan, but it worked out for the better."
