Dominic Richens Dominic Richens, Ottawa, Ontario. Dominic writes, "Nursing a hangover during the return leg of 1996 Rideau Lakes Tour (notice I'm riding on the wrong side of the road)."
Is there a wrong side of the road in Canada? ;-)

Tom Kunich Tom Kunich - SF Bay Area, California. Tom is tall, 6'4".
"If there is one thing that makes you a made man on rbr it's having your photo on Ken's site and a bad attitude."

Tom, on June 27, 2001 penned to the newsgroup:

Bullshit. Before the Andrew Albright Fanclub there was a whole lot more content. For a short period of time Ken Papai managed to lighten things up with his idea that a photos page might engender a little individual respect among the posters but that lasted about long enough for him to get on the third page.

The problem is that there are too many "me too" reactionaries. Some new guy shows up and asks what he should do to his bike for beginning Cat 5 racing, I say that he can race it as it is and of all people KEVIN METCALF -- Mr. Rocket himself -- states that you can't win some races without a 12!

And the Andrew Vermin Albright "fanclub" starts chiming in with all of the usual "go get 'em Kevin" horsecrap and even insult people like Sleepy John and Adam Myerson when they agree that the most important thing for a beginning racer isn't a big gear but taking the time to learn how to race.

Without the "fanclub" the whole thing would have been a sort of off-subject comment by Kevin. He was right but it was totally outside the context of the conversation. With the "fanclub" it was a stupid, overly protracted argument about a bizarrely unimportant detail that would only interest top flight riders -- none of whom would have been in the "fanclub".

So NO, the group hasn't been like that until AVA became better well known to the point where he and his clique chased out more intelligent and better posters such as Bruce Hildenbrant and others.
...
It is the mean-spirited way that it is approached, especially by those most definitely NOT in the know that is objectionable and all too common now. Isn't it time for a poor grammared, misspelled German reply from Albright? There's really a witty person.

You know, I found Lafferty's harping on the drug problem to be irritating and I would argue with his point of view quite a bit without the low-life ceaselessly insulting postings that have limited his appearances here. Just thumb down through the pictures on Ken's photos pages and see how few posters are really left. When you do a search through Google you very often find that they were attacked by the fanclub shortly before their disappearances.

At the left, Kelly writes: "...taken in February, 1998 in San Antonio, FL (yes, Florida). We had taken a week-long training trip up there. [A friend's] brother had somehow found out about this small Catholic college there and found that we could room in one of the old dorms for $12.50 a night, so it was a cheap trip. One catch - the first floor is occupied by nuns, so we had to be on our best behavior." Kelly's homepage.
